About Maharashtra's Universal Health Scheme (MJPJAY + PMJAY)

The Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY), integrated with the central Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), stands as Maharashtra’s flagship health initiative. In a landmark decision effective from July 2024, the scheme's coverage has been expanded to include every resident of Maharashtra, making it a truly universal health scheme. It now offers a powerful safety net to approximately 12.5 crore citizens.

The scheme provides a cashless health cover of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for 1,356 specialized medical procedures across 34 categories. Originally launched as Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayee Arogya Yojana in 2012, it was rebranded and integrated with PMJAY in 2018. The entire process is managed in a paperless, assurance mode by the State Health Assurance Society, ensuring transparent and hassle-free service for all beneficiaries.
